Axis Communications relies on CR+T to manage all HR functions

Axis Communications, founded in 1984, is an innovative market leader in network video and print servers. With a broad range of products focused on applications such as security, surveillance, remote monitoring and document management, the company has established its value by increasing the value of customers’ network solutions. A truly global organization headquartered in Sweden, Axis has offices in 14 countries, and works closely with distributors, system integrators and OEM partners in 70 countries.

Downsizing dilemma.
In 2000, Axis needed to increase the efficiency of its U.S. organization; management made the difficult decision to downsize the workforce. There was no question that the step was necessary. However, the company needed guidance on how to accomplish it smoothly and effectively.

Axis was referred to CR+T, Inc., and Barry Rubenstein was hired to help manage the downsizing and to advise the company on the legal aspects of the downsizing to mitigate possible risk.

CR+T manages HR through a difficult time.
Fredrik Nilsson, General Manager of Axis, says, “It was obvious immediately that Barry had the experience and expertise we needed.” He also credits Rubenstein with helping to create a more efficient and motivated workforce. “During a large re-org and downsizing it is important to keep employees motivated. Barry was able to help us a great deal in this capacity. Managers and employees felt that they could go to Barry and be honest about their feelings in a way that they may not have been able to do with company management. His involvement definitely improved the situation.”

Axis outsources all HR responsibilities to CR+T.
After the downsizing, Axis was so impressed they decided to outsource all of their HR functions to Rubenstein. Benefits, compensation, hiring, development and training of employees, management coaching — CR+T took on the full range of HR responsibilities.

Nilsson, along with the rest of the management team, values Rubenstein’s experience and expertise. He says, “Barry brings a third-party view to the organization. He is able to take an objective look at our strengths and weaknesses, and to address them based on his experience with many other companies.” He also says that managers rely on Rubenstein to guide them through sensitive situations that have legal implications, such as when an employee is underperforming. “Barry is able to help with procedures and a process that makes managing the situation much less stressful.”

Win-win proposition continues to produce results.
The consulting aspect of Rubenstein’s involvement works well for Axis. “As a small organization, it would be hard for us to have someone of Barry’s caliber in house full-time,” Nilsson explains. “This is a great solution for us; we get the knowledge and experience of an industry veteran on a cost-efficient basis.”

Nilsson also praises Rubenstein’s flexibility and responsiveness saying, “When we have a situation that needs immediate attention, Barry goes above and beyond to help us. In addition, he keeps in constant contact with management to keep things running smoothly on a day-to-day basis. He is definitely a valuable part of our team.”
